Psyllium husk is a type of fiber that comes from the husk of the Plantago ovata plant, which is native to the Mediterranean region. It has been known to have several health benefits including lowering cholesterol and improving digestive health, among others. Psyllium husk is often used in products as it acts as a binding agent to improve texture, but not change taste. Additonally, psyllium husk is keto-friendly, gluten-free and nut-free, which means that you can still enjoy these products without having to think twice.
And, as you know, we here at Cali'flour are very proud to offer all of our products as gluten free and grain free. We take pride in simple ingredients so our crusts, pizza crusts, flatbreads and entrees use cauliflower, egg whites and mozzarella cheese as their main focus. However, our customers told us that our pizzas were getting soggy so we listened and added psyllium husk to the recipe. We think it has improved our products greatly and we hope you agree.
Now, while our products are still keto-friendly, nut-free and gluten-free, there are a few minor changes to the nutritional facts. Depending on the product, the nutritional facts change, just slightly. For example, our Original Italian, Plain & Sweet Red Pepper crusts had a decrease in net carbs to 1g (from 2g). This new formula makes our products a better quality and we hope you love it!
