Calcium is a vital mineral that we need to get on a daily basis. While we tend to associate it with bones health, it is essential for many of our health needs. We need calcium for muscular function as well as nerve and heart function, to just name a few. So are you getting enough?
Well, too much or too little calcium in your diet could lead to unwanted outcomes. However, depending on age, gender and life stage, our needs differ. For example, a toddler needs less than a teenage girl and a woman between the ages of 51-70 years old, needs 1200 mg versus 1000 mg for men of that age.* And while most of us are not deficient in calcium, it is important to assess whether or not you're getting enough on a daily basis.
There are a number of good sources of calcium from healthy foods. For example, dairy products, tofu, sardines, almonds, fortified milks, spinach and even bok choy are great to include in your diet to ensure you're getting the recommended daily allowance (RDA). Here's a tip for you though, caffeine can negatively affect the absorption of calcium so make sure to separate the two whenever possible. Additionally, since we always want to make food that tastes as good as it makes you feel, we made sure that the majority of our Cali'flour products are Good Sources of Calcium. All of our Traditional Crusts (Plain, Original Italian, Spicy Jalapeño, Sweet Red Pepper) have 15% of the recommended daily value. And all of our Pizzas have up to 45% of the recommended daily value per serving. We also made sure that all of our Entrées are good sources of calcium too so at the end of the day, you're not only getting conveniently delicious foods made with simple ingredients, but you're also getting your daily dose of calcium.
So next time you're checking off that grocery list full of healthy food, remember, Cali'flour is here to help you reach your health goals.
Happy Eating!
